Shohei Ohtani put a major scare into the Los Angeles Dodgers when he injured his left shoulder late in their Game 2 win over the New York Yankees, but he is expected to play in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night.
«He’s in a great spot. He’s playing tomorrow,» Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told ESPN’s Karl Ravech via text.
Ohtani suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder during an attempted steal of second base to end the seventh inning in Saturday’s 4-2 win. He was slow to get up and rolled on the ground while grabbing his left arm before leaving the field with an athletic trainer.
Ohtani underwent imaging Sunday morning on his shoulder and will be going through team workouts at Yankee Stadium, Roberts told reporters at his news conference Sunday afternoon. Roberts says that while he didn’t have the test results, he is going off reports from the training staff and Ohtani himself that the star slugger is feeling well.
«If he feels good enough to go, I see no reason why he wouldn’t be in [the lineup for Game 3],» Roberts said.
The Dodgers are set to play Games 3, 4 and (potentially) 5 at Yankee Stadium on Monday, Tuesday and (if necessary) Wednesday.
Los Angeles leads New York 2-0 in the series.
