Former World Series MVP Jorge Soler is heading back to Atlanta after the Braves swung a trade Monday night with the San Francisco Giants.
The Braves acquired Soler at the trade deadline exactly three years ago Monday and the slugger helped Atlanta win its first World Series since 1995 with an MVP-earning performance in the Fall Classic.
Also making a return to Atlanta in the trade is right-handed reliever Luke Jackson, another member of the 2021 championship team.
The Giants are receiving left-hander Tyler Matzek and infield prospect Sabin Ceballos in return.
Soler, 32, has a 116 OPS+ for the Giants this year as well as 12 home runs and 40 RBIs. He signed a three-year, $42 million deal with San Francisco this winter.
Jackson has struggled this year with a 5.40 ERA across 35 innings.
Ceballos, 21, is the 17th-ranked prospect in the Braves system, according to MLB.com, and was a third-round draft pick last year.
At the conclusion of Monday night’s games, the Braves sit atop the National League wild-card race with a half-game lead over the Mets.
